Democracy is “government of, by and for the people”. Abraham Lincoln
We Live in a country where the polarization of democracy resembles a third world country.
The Right and the Left refuse to seek common ground on almost any issue, including the deadliest pandemic since the Flu of 1918. The division has always existed, but not to the degree it is now thanks to a man who seen the weakness and frailty of democracy and sought to exploit it. Now we judge one another based on political views and not morals and character.
It’s one thing to for person to say he’s not my president and it is a completely different thing to say he’s not the president. The latter is what we are hearing now at a time our country is struggling through a pandemic and when we should be working in unison to overcome it.
The voter suppression by way of slowing down the mail and making it almost impossible to vote echoes of a time in the past when it was accepted and tolerated. We are now at a junction where the loser of a presidential election is attempting to silence valid votes submitted by citizens of this country.
Trump is calling voter fraud in Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Milwaukie. What do they all have in common? They are all predominantly black populations. Apparently, the black voters can’t be trusted. Racism is not always seen, but it is deeply felt by those who it is imposed upon.
At a time when he could display some form of character, he chooses to give sail to lies that have to be supported by more lies and float on conspiracy theories all of which are unproven. But yet people believe him rather than the truth. None of his followers have ever held him accountable for anything.
We as a people should understand we are the United States of America, which means we are all connected. We don’t have to always agree, but we do have to live together. When power and finances become the priority of any group of people morals and character is sacrificed.
You may not have voted for Biden, but he has been elected to be the 46th President of the US. Many, (73 million) did not vote for him, but he received more votes than the current president. I can understand someone saying he is not my President, but I cannot understand anyone saying he is not the President.
Defeat should be understood as a learning opportunity. A time to reflect on what could have been done differently. It is a time to improve, develop and grow. It is a time to prepare for the next time. But if one is stuck in the realm of unacceptance they will never improve, develop or grow. They will only be capable of reliving the past and sowing seeds of discord.
