What about right now?

We fight and argue over a future that doesn’t really belong to us. I believe we all have hopes and dreams of a better future for our families and friends. But what are you doing about the right now? In the midst of a pandemic, in the midst of political and racial unrest what are you really doing right now? Will the future look back and see that you were so focused on the future that you failed to appreciate time in the present?

We often look at old pictures and reminisce with fund memories of the past. And we realize at the time when the pictures were taken, we didn’t cherish that time in the same deep feelings of love and compassion as we do now when looking back. Don’t get me wrong, we should always plan for the future and work towards a better future. But we should also take time to cherish and live in the right now. Believe it or not the right now is the only time you really have control over as every decision you make now affects your tomorrow.

If we as a country could just take a moment and breathe, things could be so much better. Though we have a long way to go, we have made tremendous progress as a new republic. When you stop to breathe it allows time for reflection on one’s self.  Time to think am I showing genuine love for others from my heart? Am I sharing encouragement with strangers and planting seeds of unity in the right know? Or am I so fixated on what was, and worried about what will be that I lose sight of the right now. It is said for every action there is a reaction. What are the actions you are taking now? Are you acting out of fear?

You see fear spawn’s irrational thoughts and actions. Irrational fears blur hope and destroys faith. Every Generation has said this will be the end of our country when things don’t turn out the way they planned, Guess what we’re still here. If we could focus less on what the future will look like and more on what we are doing right now with the understanding that what we do now is what formulates the future.

Imagine if we lived in a world where it didn’t matter who gets the credit for anything, where didn’t matter what color your skin is, or what political affiliation you may have, and a world where people every day in real time care for one another. When you live in the right now every moment counts, every hour is an opportunity and every day is an adventure because you are giving of yourself from the heart.

One day you can look back at the pictures from today in reflection knowing that in a time of division and hate you chose to seek peace and to love those with whom you disagreed, because it was the right thing to do at that very time. Because in the end it will not be about how many years you were on earth, but rather how many years you lived while you were on earth.

Reputation is what men and women think of us; Character is what God and Angels know of us.
