The COVID-19 Virus that has brought the world to its knees this year continues to be a challenge for the US in spite of our country having the greatest scientific resources in the world.
The leadership of our country during the virus can be summed up with one word, terrible. I don’t know if this had not been an election year if it would have been handled any differently.
The approach to the virus has been political from the start. Our president was informed of the seriousness of the virus but played it down and never shared just how deadly the virus is with the American people. After scientist said wearing a mask will save lives our president then politicized the wearing of masks and turned it into a republican vs democrat scenario. At the time of this writing there has been over 200,000 lives which have succumbed to the virus. Those who have been blessed enough to survive the virus continue to fight the effects of the sickness many moths after recovering. The president continues to taunt that china did this to us. But think about this, if a dog comes and craps in your yard; you don’t go out and step in and track it all throughout your home. You take action to contain it and remove it from your lawn to prevent anyone from stepping in it.
In order for our country to make it through this epidemic we are going to have to come together in agreement with a plan and follow the advice provided by the many scientist who are experts in the field of epeolatry. This virus does not care about anyone’s title or position. This virus does not care if you are a democrat or republican. This virus does not care if you are rich or poor. This virus cannot be bullied into submission. It doesn’t care if you call it names. It not concerned about how nice a person you are or where you live. This virus is unlike any of our other enemies because it can attack without being seen, it will not negotiate or sign a peace treaty and it attacks every nation of the world without mercy.
While we are hopeful an effective vaccine will be developed and shared throughout the world, that will take time and in essence is only putting the virus into retreat. It will not make it go away. It will only limit the amount of the spread. We as a country could do so much better against this terror if we would just take off the titles and political affiliations do the right thing to prevent the spread. Wear a mask, social distance and wash our hands. If these guidelines had been implemented and followed at the started when the danger of the virus was first shared with the president, many lives would not have to have died needlessly.
It is my hope that one day we truly realize a house divided cannot stand. I hope we can come together in spite of our differences to do the right thing. The Covid-19 Virus does not care about what kind of people you consider to be patriots, your involvement in civil rights or racial supremacy. It only survives to do one thing and that is Kill. We shouldn’t want to help it.
