Clarity- here’s my effort to convey clarity- a loving mother upset with her son told him to go sit down in his chair. The boy reluctantly obeyed. But once seated he said to his mother “I may be sitting down, but I’m standing up in my mind.” I hear many saying “what’s next Washington, Jefferson, our culture is being destroyed.” The truth- the Confederacy was a civil uprising of people who ignored what our current administration often hangs it hat, the rule of law. The succession from the union was considered treason. It was not until the 1900’s when racial healing and progress was moving forward that those who opposed were still standing in their minds. The KKK and other Hate groups begin to grow. Although the war was over and the Union succeeded many were still standing in their minds and actions to not go forward, but to regurgitate the ugly past. This gave birth to the Jim Crow era. Washington, Jefferson and many others were not perfect, but they were not treasonous. Those who are still standing in their minds would have others believe something that is not true. For many American Citizens the bronze statues represent defiance of progress. Some may call it history, but Hate has embraced them as a symbolism of what the future should be. There is a difference between history and culture. History is the facts. Culture is what you are at this time in life. I understand not all will agree, but God’s word says, “My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6. Finally what happened this past weekend was not about a statue; it was about people of hate standing in their minds. Whether the bronze images go or whether they stay, we as people of America have been given a simple instruction that man makes so difficult and that is to love one another. Love covers a multitude of faults. God Bless
